Welcome to a prime example of what not to do with an author website (at least according to everything they tell me).
Why is this an example of what not to do? Well, everything I’ve always read about blogging and setting up an author website says, essentially, STAY ON POINT! Meaning, pick a topic and stick to it. But if I’m going to visit an author’s site, I don’t want him or her to just tell me how to write, or what I should do as an author, or what books he or she has written. I want to get to know them. Find out what makes them tick, so to speak.
Which means my blog will be a rather random collection of thoughts and opinions. The very thing I’m told I’m not supposed to do. Yes, I will have some posts on writing and related topics. But I’m also going to talk about other fantasy and science fiction subjects, maybe even movies or television shows. I’ll be doing posts on encouragement and motivation (including posts on my own struggles with the same), but there may also be an occasional rant here and there. Basically, whatever’s foremost in my mind when I sit down to write, that’s what I’m going to write. Heck, I might even get daring down the line somewhere and post a video or two. Maybe even one with me in it!
I hope you stick around to get to know the “real” me, as Shan Yu would say (that was for any Browncoats that might wander through). Don’t worry. I’ve got some links to real websites about the fabulous/frustrating biz of writing for you too.
You have been warned. Enjoy!
